Champions Luncheon presented by Carrington Group of Companies

Hosted at the Edmonton Convention Centre, set against a snowy backdrop of Edmonton’s River Valley, we were proud to begin the 17th Annual Alzheimer’s Pro-Am Hockey Tournament weekend with the Champions Luncheon presented by Carrington Group of Companies.

A highlight of the afternoon was the moving remarks from Darren Hetchler—a devoted husband and care partner—who generously shared the profound impact that funds raised through this tournament have had on his life.

“Speaking at the Alzheimer’s Pro-Am Luncheon sponsored by Carrington Group of Companies was a rewarding experience. Strangers were touched by our story. Lots of people came up and shared they were just starting their journey, and my speech helped. Many others shared they were sorry for my loss, which meant they got what I am losing. The standing ovation validated Tracy’s life. Being able to speak at the luncheon was a legacy for Tracy, and if I helped one person, it was worth it”.

This year’s luncheon featured a Hot Stove panel interview hosted by, Bob McKenzie, the Original Insider. Joined by former NHL goaltenders Mike Vernon and Bill Ranford, guests were treated to an afternoon of great conversation as they reflected on their careers and shared stories from their time “Between the Pipes.”

Draft Night presented by Silent Ice Sports and Entertainment

At Friday evening’s Draft Night presented by Silent Ice Sports and Entertainment, teams gathered at Midway Music Hall in anticipation as they selected the NHL Alumni player who would join them for the weekend.

While the coveted first overall selection is traditionally awarded to the team that has raised the most funds, this year brought an exciting twist. In a generous show of camaraderie, The Urban Selects orchestrated a behind-the-scenes trade, allowing the second-place team, the Carrington Crusaders, to step forward and make the first pick!

The Tournament

With the Alumni drafted, teams took to the ice at the Booster Juice Recreation Centre in Terwillegar, kicking off two days of camaraderie and competition.

From the first puck drop to the shared moments in the dressing room, the true spirit of the tournament was evident. Players arrived with enthusiasm and left with something far more meaningful — a deeper sense of purpose and connection to the cause.

Beyond the game, this weekend represents an opportunity to celebrate the dedication and accomplishments of the teams who raised awareness and funds in community –  knowing that every effort contributes to a lasting impact for individuals and families on their journey with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
